Description

Sewing zippers may seem scary, but in this beginner class we’ll learn how to sew a zipper into a cute little pouch.

Please note: This is an advanced beginner class. It will be helpful to understand how to thread your machine, wind a bobbin, and sew a straight line before taking this class.  Please talk to us if you are unsure whether this class is a good fit.

What you’ll learn:

  • Understand zipper sizing and makeup

  • How to sew a zipper

  • How to shorten a zipper

  • Basic quilting

  • Take home a zippered pouch

What You'll Need

What You Need:

Sewing machine, and manual if you have it

The zipper foot for your machine. This is important…check your manual if you’re not sure which foot is the zipper foot. 

Fabric: ¼ yard or fat quarter of woven fabric for exterior, ¼ yard or fat quarter of woven fabric for interior.

Zipper: 7” or longer. Nylon is a good choice for beginners, but if you want to use a metal zipper, feel free! We’ll talk about both. 

16’’ x 14 1/2’’ piece of foam stabilizer, quilt batting, or fusible fleece.

Thread: I recommend 100% polyester, all-purpose sewing thread that matches your fabric

Machine needles: 90/14 universal sewing machine needle

Scissors 

Sewing pins, and safety pin

Any additional sewing tools you have on hand (measuring tape, seam ripper, marking pens, rotary cutters, cutting mats, iron, etc). 

Recommended: water and snacks! 3 hours is a long time!
