Spring into Summer MAL: Week 3 Update!

Can you believe we are already heading into Week 3 of our Spring into Summer Make-Along? Stix Underground has been buzzing with the sound of clicking needles and the gorgeous, crisp texture of summer fibers. This week, we are checking in on some of our staff projects, and it seems there is a definite theme emerging: the effortless, architectural designs of Yumiko Alexander paired with the incredible Dan Doh Linen.

If you haven't worked with this linen yet, it is truly a summer staple. It has a unique, paper-like quality that softens beautifully as you handle it, creating a fabric with amazing drape and breathability—perfect for our Montana summers!

Tracy’s Double Feature

Tracy is keeping her needles busy with not one, but two stunning Yumiko Alexander pieces. She is working on Silk Pinecones and Iris. Iris is being knit in the Dan Doh Linen color Pacific—a deep, dreamy blue that makes us think of mountain lakes and clear summer skies. Silk Pinecones is a stash yarn, but Sandnes Garn Line or Malabrigo Verano would work really well! Yumiko’s designs are so well-known for their interesting textures, and seeing them come to life in this linen is pure magic.

Cameron’s Skyline View

Cameron is also diving into the world of Dan Doh, working on the Skyline Tee. She chose the color Chambray, which is the perfect light, airy blue for a summer top. The Skyline Tee features those signature geometric lines that Yumiko Alexander is famous for, and it’s turning into the kind of piece you’ll want to reach for every single morning.

Check out these other great projects from some of our our MAL-ers! There was definitely a purple mood this week.

How is your MAL project coming along? Whether you’re halfway through a linen tee or just casting on a lace shawl, we want to see it! Stop by the shop to show us your progress, or tag us on Instagram or Facebook so we can cheer you on.

Let’s keep those needles moving—summer is almost here!

Happy Making, The Stix Team

Spring is here! Birds are singing, green is starting to show, and fingers are ready to make summer things!

We plan to celebrate spring with a Make-Along; would you like to join us? If you live in the area, come in Wednesday evenings (April 2nd and 29th, and May 6th and 13th) to work on any summery project you like. Knit a tank, crochet a skirt, stitch some picnic napkins....whatever you want to make to get your summer underway. If you don't live nearby, you can still join in the fun!  For extra fun, we will have a drawing for prizes when we are finished.

However you plan to join us, here's how to get started and enter for the drawing:

  • Head to the Classes page of the website and register for the Make-Along.
  • Choose your project and round up your materials. We are happy to help with that!
  • Post a photo your chosen project and materials on Facebook or Instagram and tag @stixyarn on your post. Lots of in-progress posts are great too! Please use the hashtag #springintosummerkal.
  • Post a photo of your finished (or as close as you can get) project with the same tags by May 31st.
  • Post a photo of your finished (or as close as you can get) project with the same tags by May 31st.

Easy Peasy!

We will be posting photos here on the Journal too, so head back to see what folks are making.

We are going through Ravelry now to see what we might make....

Tracy is thinking about the Lichen by Yumiko Alexander. We now carry DanDoh linen, which is one of a line of yarns developed by Yumiko herself. It is a unique, lovely yarn and we can't wait to get it on our needles.

Also in the running is the crochet Florence Tee by Courtney A. Clark. Tracy wants to try out the Isager Trio 2, and this would be the perfect application for it!

Cameron is contemplating the Skyline, also by Yumiko Alexander and also using the DanDoh linen.

Miguel is already working on one summer project, and he likes this Pure Mesh Tank Top so much he is hoping to make another. He is using Isager Palet for this one, and might add some sparkles to the next one!

Hop online to register now, and then head to Ravelry to look through your favorites or check out new summery designs. We can't wait to see what you choose and to get started making together!
