Malabrigo Rios is our hands-down favorite superwash wool yarn for so many reasons. It is soft yet sturdy, easy-care, the perfect weight for quick gratification without being too bulky, and it comes in SO MANY shades of hand-dyed colors. All that being said, you might wonder how it could possibly get any better.
Here’s how: 9 new colors have just been added to the line-up!

Say hello to The Amigas de Rosalina collection. At the center of the collection is Rosalinda; a lovely mix of soft, pastel tones reminiscent of walking through a garden filled with roses and lilacs. You may have seen it before on other Malabrigo yarn bases in the past, and we are so pleased it has been added to Rios as well! (Fun fact: Rosalinda was originally created at the request of an American intern who worked with Malabrigo. The name came from the soft rose tones that define the color.) Now, Rosalinda is joined by eight new colors:
Melissa, Zahara, Daphne, Celestina, Magnolia, Gardenia, Belinda, and Delphira.

Now that you’ve been properly introduced, let’s talk a little about what to make with these beautiful, new, hand-dyed yarns.
Given the machine-washable softness of this yarn, you might think it would be perfect for babies. (For use in making baby things, not for babies to knit with. That’s just silly.) You would be correct! One of our favorite projects for Rios is our Simple Garter Stripes Baby Blanket.

We made it here in 6 tonal shades of Rios, but wouldn’t it be lovely to use Rosalinda and five of her friends? So soft and sweet!

Here are a few other color-combos we think would be lovely for this blanket (colors listed top to bottom)

Pearl, Delphira, Tranquilo, Scorpio, Cielo y Tierra, Coco

Reflecting Pool, Teal Feather, Hojas, Fresco y Seco, Gardenia, Magnolia

Pisces, Daphne, Cucumber, Celestina. Water Green, Solis

Zahara, Rosalinda, Old Rose, Illusion, Camel, Magnolia
We also really like the Flax Worsted sweater by tincanknits.

It is a simple top-down pullover written for an incredible 19 (!) different sizes, so you’re sure to find the perfect size to knit for anyone you know. The simplicity of the design makes it a great way to showcase the tonal or variegated shades of Rios.
Of course, Rios isn’t just for the little ones. You could make a Flax sweater for yourself, or any design you’d like calling for worsted weight. Here are a few other simple wearable designs we like.

What else would be perfect to make from cozy-warm washable wool? Home-goods, of course!

Thick Chicken Potholder by Maggie Haskell (I could NOT resist the name!)

Moraine Blanket Melissa Fisher
We can’t wait to try out these beautiful new additions to the Rios family of colors. The hardest part will be deciding what to make! What will you make? If you are already a Rios addict, tell us all about your favorite Rios makes in the comments. Why do you love Rios? We’d love to hear from you!

Rios is my all-time favorite yarn for hats and cowls. It’s so soft to knit with and wear. Did I mention the color selections are unbelievable? Each color is heavenly!! Thank you, Stix, for carrying all the Malabrigo yarn types!
