LEARN TO KNIT & CROCHET CLASSES
If you have never picked up needles or a hook but are ready to learn, sign up for one of our FREE beginner classes. You will learn the knit stitch or the single crochet stitch. You will be crafting your own cozy projects before you know it!

Summer Classes

DISHCLOTHS! SKILL BUILDING SERIES
Don’t put those needles away! This summer Stix is offering low-stress, low-commitment classes to help you advance your knitting and crochet skills, so you’ll be ready for your dream project in the fall.

Every Wednesday in May our skills series will feature a new knit or crochet technique. Each class is $10 and includes a pattern and one ball of Sugar & Cream cotton – enough yarn to complete a practice dishcloth. BYON/H (bring your own needles or hook).

 
 

KNIT CABLES
Wed May 8th from 1:00 – 2:00

You’ll learn the basics of knitting cable twists with a cable needle. Once you’ve practiced a bit, you’ll be able to knit a whole variety of more complicated cable patterns.

Pattern: included with class fee
Yarn: 1 ball Sugar & Cream (included with class fee)
Hook: US size 8 needles
Prerequisite Skills: knit and purl stitches

CROCHET GRANNY SQUARE
Wed May 8th from 6:30 – 7:30

Find out how fun and fast it is to crochet traditional Granny Squares. If you just can’t stop at one, make a whole bunch of grannies and whip up an afghan.

CROCHET IN THE ROUND
Wed May 15th from 1:00 – 2:00

Crocheting a flat circle in the round using basic increases is the same technique you utilize when crochet the top of hat. Come to our dishcloth class and you’ll soon be making hats for everybody.

Prerequisite Skills: single and double crochet stitches

KNIT LACE
Wed May 15th from 6:30 – 7:30

In this class you’ll learn all the basics of knitting lace. You’ll practice creating eyelets with yarn-overs in addition to easy knit paired decreases. After this dishcloth, you’ll have the skills you need to try intermediate lace projects.

KNITTING IN THE ROUND
Wed May 22nd from 1:00 – 2:00

Make this dischcloth and you’ll know how to knit in the round using a circular needle, basic knit decreases, and how to use double-pointed needles. By fall you’ll be making hats, legwarmers, and mittens.

TUNISIAN CROCHET
Wed May 22nd from 6:30 – 7:30

Learn the basics of Tunisian crochet using a long hook. Our instructor will show you how to use an afghan hook and some basic Tunisian crochet stitches.

CROCHET LACE
Wed May 29th from 1:00 – 2:00

In this dishcloth class you will learn how to crochet into chain spaces to create openings and when you’re done, you’ll be ready to crochet that lace shawl in your Ravelry queue.

KNIT ENTRELAC
Wed May 29th from 6:30 – 7:30

In this class you’ll learn all the techniques required to make this fabulous woven textured fabric including picking up stitches and how to knit entrelac. You’ll be making striped entrelac scarves by fall!

Class Policy

Stix requires at least 4 students per class so sign up with a friend. If 4 students haven’t signed up at least 24 hours in advance, Stix may cancel or reschedule the class (if paid, you’ll will get a full refund). Stix classes are free when your purchase your materials for the class at Stix in advance. If you wish to purchase yarn elsewhere or use supplies in your stash, we ask you to pay a $15 class fee per session. Guest instructors or other special events may require that we charge a class fee and we will always advertise such fees when this happens. Please sign up for all classes in advance by either calling us at 556-5786 or coming by the store.
